How to Install Signal App on Chromebooks, Chrome OS & Flex

Looking for installing Signal App on Google Chrome OS Flex Chromebooks? You are on the right place for Signal App install on Chromebooks. Signal.org website does not provide Signal installer for ChromeOS. We have to install it manually, sort of.

First of all we need to enable Linux support from Google settings. Then execute following four command on the Linux terminal from the official website.

1. First Command
wget -O- https://updates.signal.org/desktop/apt/keys.asc | gpg –dearmor > signal-desktop-keyring.gpg

2. Second Command
cat signal-desktop-keyring.gpg | sudo tee -a /usr/share/keyrings/signal-desktop-keyring.gpg > /dev/null

3. Third Command
echo ‘deb [arch=amd64 signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/signal-desktop-keyring.gpg] https://updates.signal.org/desktop/apt xenial main’ |
sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list.d/signal-xenial.list

4. Forth Command
sudo apt update && sudo apt install signal-desktop

It would take sometime to install. And at the end you will find Signal App on the Google Chrome OS start menu. You can later on pin Signal App on the taskbar.
